Since the late 1980s, the Indigo Girls have created passionate folk songs that are intensely personal and overtly political. They are mostly known for their hits "Closer to Fine," "Power of Two," "Galileo," "Shame on You," "Hammer and Nail," among many others. Although these songs did not place high on the charts, they enabled them to build a loyal following among diverse fans who enjoy the duo's socially-conscious songs that often depict the realities of society.
The duo was also able to sell millions of albums worldwide, earn seven Grammy nominations and one win, and regularly deliver concerts and tours across the country. In addition, the band consisting of real-life friends Amy Ray and Emily Saliers has become an icon of activism. In fact, a certain section on their website is solely dedicated to causes the two women support. They encourage their followers to be updated on their current projects to raise money and awareness for timely issues such as human rights, environmental causes, LGBTQ rights, and women's health. Indeed, they are more than just artists. They are prime movers in the industry.
The duo's last tour was in 2017, when they embarked on a 50-date show, performing their music arranged for a symphony orchestra. Now, after many years of hiatus from live performance, the Indigo Girls are back on the road for their 2022 tour.
The tour supports their self-produced 2020 album, entitled "Look Long"— an eleven-track album that features songs that have a tender, revealing motion to them. Their website describes this album as "a stirring and eclectic collection of songs that finds them chronicling their personal upbringing with more specificity and focus than any previous song cycle." This album reached number 2 in the US Folk Charts, proving that the Girls are still on top of the game.
If you want to hear the album's songs performed live along with other classic hit songs, don't forget to catch these two incredible musicians in Nebraska's Orpheum Theater on May 25, 2022. See you there!
