Hamilton at Orpheum Theatre

This spring, Hamilton will be performing in Orpheum Theatre, the top-rated theatre of Omaha plus, the greatest possible venue for this world-wide phenomenon show. The acclaimed and award-winning Musical continues to tell its unforgettable tale from place to place all over the world.

Premiering off Broadway in 2015, Hamilton was not the instant Broadway play that you will see now. Lin-Manuel Miranda has spoken candidly about its inspiration, starting as a concept album in 2009, with Miranda sharing that he was “thrilled that the White House called me tonight, because I’m actually working on a hip-hop album. It's a concept album about the life of someone I think embodies hip-hop: treasury secretary Alexander Hamilton.” That singular performance gained praise and a well-deserved standing ovation from his crowd at the time, as well as former President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama, and has led to Miranda’s creation of the Hamilton musical we know now.

Due to his previous experience in musical theater, Lin-Manuel Miranda has also gained influences from other successful theater pieces such as Les Misérables, which follows a similar theme that tells the story of a struggle, and triumphing that struggle, instead of the traditional musical theatre biases that follow the trend of being very positive and happy. Hamilton is no different, being about the difficulties arising as an orphaned immigrant from the Caribbean who climbed the ladder and became the first U.S. Treasury Secretary. With the greatest respect to its source material, Hamilton shows us both sides of Alexander Hamilton’s rise to power, by not only showing us a peek into his personal life and struggle, but also his impact and effect in being able to powerfully shape North America over that time.

With its story, Hamilton continues to present its importance in our modern culture and even on the international stage, confronting topics and challenges that are very relevant not only to the Nation, but also globally. Even the use of musical styles of hip hop, jazz, and R&B as the shows score has cemented its place in pop culture, making it one of the most popular hit Omaha musicals today.
