The Thorn at Orpheum Theatre

The Thorn is a theatrical production over 25 years in the making. A show that has toured across the country for over a decade and made possible by over ten thousand actors, acrobats and volunteers. TEN THOUSAND people who believe in telling the story of Jesus. Originally started but young youth pastors with the creator John Bolin aiming to help others in seeing the power and beauty of the gospel. John had only two goals of this amazing show, the first one being to show the sacrifice that Jesus made out of love for all of us to prosper and come closer to God, and the second one to show the spiritual battle for the hearts, mind, calling and destiny of young people.

To show that no matter the darkness you're facing that Jesus is always there and he will always help as long as you let him. The first ever show of "The Thorn" took place on Halloween night and was attended by hundreds of teenagers with nothing more than a subtle brick wall as its back drop. John took inspiration from the sermon of the youth pastor before him "The whip, hammer and cross" and finished what was left out which was "The Crown of Thorns". Over the years the show grew , eventually moving out of a youth auditorium and into a three thousand seat sanctuary as the crowds grew just as quickly.

They strayed away from norm and instead of having a singular person on stage at a time, they decide to have up to five hundred people at once, not just in order to captivate the audience to make them feel involved as if they were really there. After over a decade of performing every Easter, the show decided to go on tour which felt nearly impossible at first but continued to work and improve over the years because a team of Thorn artists who were passionate about making the show engaging and emotive. The showed became the most beautiful way to tell the story thanks to the amazing dancing and choreography. From what started as a youth groups passion play has grown into a theatrical phenomenon reaching countless people over the years.

During their tour in 2020 it was deemed unsafe to continue due to Covid-19 which lead the Thorn to go dark for almost 2 years, but then a moment of inspiration happened and they created an interactive film . Showing that no matter the obstacle , these amazing people still perused to do their dream and reach as many people as possible. Theatres were filled upon the films release and even though the whole experience was now digital ... That didn't stop the group from performing as it became something they fell in love with.
