On this visual and aural splendor, our dear Clara/Marie and her brother receive some toys from the Drosselmeyer. It’s Christmas eve and Clara’s Godfather, the Drosselmeyer who happens to be an avid toy maker, brings out a myriad of dolls for them to enjoy. Clara takes a liking to the Nutcracker, which accidentally gets broken. Thankfully, the toy quickly gets mended. Just before midnight (after everyone has gone to bed), Clara comes back to check on the Nutcracker. When the clock strikes midnight, everything in the parlor becomes different, from the Christmas tree growing into an incredible height, the Nutcracker becomes lifesize, and the room gets filled with mice. On this fantastic evening, Clara’s life turns upside down and as she faces the ensuing chaotic battle between the toy soldiers and the mouse king, she’s now on a brilliant Christmas filled adventure.

A classic Russan ballet originally choreographed by Marius Petipa, The Nutcracker originally featured the legendary music of Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky. The two-act ballet premiered in 1892 in St. Petersburg, Russia. In 1944, William Christensen choreographed the first American version of The Nutcracker. Since then, the ballet has been performed across the country with many ballet companies creating their renditions. In 1954, George Balanchine’s The Nutcracker elevated the show into a Christmas spectacle – making The Nutcracker the best-selling holiday show.
