A centuries-old Spanish legend about a notorious and highly immoral womanizer, Don Juan, consumed with selfishness and vengeance, through the storytelling of the brilliant librettist Lorenzo da Ponte and masterfully set to music by one of the world’s most renowned composers, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, found its way onto the stage in 1787. The essence of the story - a blend of comedy, melodrama, and the supernatural - is captured with wonderful music encompassing stunning duets, quartets, and quintets, flowing recitatives and glorious arias, and comedic moments, in contrast to the dissonance in one of opera’s most terrifying finales – the convergence of the comic and the chilling, of sensuality and retribution in perfect equilibrium.
Don Giovanni, a young, arrogant, and promiscuous nobleman who preys upon young women and abuses people of a lower social class for his own enjoyment and benefit, soon has to face the grim consequences of his actions. In a world of seduction and vengeance, many moral questions are posed, of which the most prominent is: do we get what we deserve in the end?
Don Giovanni is regarded as one of the greatest operas of all time, and it is without a doubt an opera everybody should experience at least once in their lifetime.
Opera Omaha is breathing life into the immortal opera once more, with a stellar cast comprising Craig Verm as Don Giovanni, Zachary Nelson as Leporello, Teresa Perrotta as Donna Anna, Mary Evelyn Hangley as Donna Elvira, Erika Baikoff as Zerlina, Terence Chin-Lay as Don Ottavio, and Markel Reed as Masetto.
