Opera Omaha: The Marriage of Figaro at Orpheum Theatre

This is one of the greatest operas ever written and was composed in 1786 by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. It is a staple of the operatic canon and regularly ranks in the top ten on Operabase's list of the most frequently staged operas. Ex-barber and all-around handyman Figaro is about to tie the knot with the woman of his dreams, Suzanne. However, he finds out that his boss, Count Almaviva, is planning to seduce Suzanne on their wedding day.

A classic French farce, "The Marriage of Figaro" follows Figaro, Suzanne, and the Countess as they use forged letters, disguises, and miscommunications (both deliberate and unintentional) to correct the Count's licentious ways over the course of the wedding day. The rest of the household, including the Countess' bitter former guardian Bartholo, out for revenge, the maid Marceline, who has a secret crush on Figaro, and the Count's overly romantic page Cherubin, constantly interrupt the trickster couple as they try to save their marriage. Even if it's not exactly what they were hoping for at the outset, everyone ends up with exactly what they require.
