Opera Omaha: The Marriage of Figaro at Orpheum Theatre

One of the best operas ever written, Mozart composed this masterpiece in 1786. The opera is a mainstay of the repertoire and consistently makes Operabase's top ten list of the most performed operas. Figaro, a former barber and general handyman, is about to marry the woman of his dreams, Suzanne.

He learns, however, that his boss, Count Almaviva, has plans to seduce Suzanne on the day of their wedding. Figaro, Suzanne, and the Countess spend the day of the wedding trying to rein in the Count's licentious behavior through a combination of forged letters, disguises, and miscommunications (both intentional and unintentional). They are constantly interrupted by the rest of the household, including the Countess' bitter former guardian Bartholo, out for revenge; the maid Marceline, who has a secret crush on Figaro; and the Count's overly romantic page Cherubin. In the end, everyone gets what they need, even if it's not what they wanted at first.
