Set in Chicago during Prohibition when jazz music was all the rage, "Some Like It Hot" draws similarities to another award winning Broadway show, Chicago. Jazz elements enhance the entire show as the main characters, Joe and Jerry, are struggling musicians working to survive on speakeasy gigs. Their lives face an unexpected twist when they witness a gangster committing a crime in their mob-controlled speakeasy and need to disguise themselves as female musicians to protect their identities from the mob.
Joe reinvents himself as Josephine, while Jerry disguises himself as Daphne and the two join an all-female swing band. The band's singer Sugar Kane becomes a pivotal part of their story as the two men attempt to romance her without revealing their identities. The growth each character tests their strengths and teaches them valuable lessons about themselves.
Did you know that "Some Like It Hot" is a Broadway reimagining of the 1959 film of the same name, which starred the legendary Tony Curtis, Jack Lemmon, and Marilyn Monroe. The film was based on the 1953 French movie Fanfare of Love and has since become one of the most culturally relevant movies in American cinema.
