The Lion King at Orpheum Theatre

The Lion King is marching to the Orpheum Theater - Omaha on Thursday, 29th February next year! Don’t worry about missing this date because the cast will perform a series of shows at the venue for an entire month before concluding on March 24th.

For over three decades, the Disney animated classic continues to amaze fans and audiences worldwide as it follows the classic story of Simba from his lion cub years to his journey to becoming King. With the inclusion of Swahili and Zulu, this musical impressively boasts five indigenous African languages throughout the performance.

Adapted from Roger Allers and Irene Mecchi’s original book, this Broadway spectacle features music by Elton John and lyrics from Tim Rice. Notably, Director Julie Taymor received the honor of achieving a Tony Award for “Best Direction of a Musical” for this production. Other members of the creatives team include Garth Fagan on choreography, Richard Hudson on scenic design, Donald Holder on lighting design, and Michael Curry on mask/puppet design.

Variety’s review of the musical mentions that, simply put, Julie Taymor's production by Disney is a wonder and a theatrical accomplishment unmatched in its invention. The review continues to praise how the stage adaptation of the popular animated feature surpasses its source material in almost every way, from visuals, storytelling, and the newly Africanized pop songs.
